OPRYLAND

grrrrr circa 1977

Or maybe this page should be called Opry Mills, since owners the Gaylord Company decided to tear Opryland down to build a huge mall called Opry Mills.

What a shame. Nothing was better as a kid than swooshing down Opryland's Flume Zoom log ride, screaming your lungs out on the Rock'n'Roller Coaster, or having your neck close to snapped on the Wabash Cannonball. It may be that the tourist industry will suffer due to Gaylord's decision. Doesn't everybody already live near some sort of mall? Why would people go to Nashville to shop?

And who will hire all those great singers and dancers who used to perform in Opryland's many musical shows? I guess the Opryland Hotel is still an interesting place to go, and of course the Grand Ole Opry is always great, but we sure will miss having our picture taken with those walking guitars.
