Though you can get 'em in other parts of the country, lightning bugs are so much a part of the gothic South, I had to put them in here.

What Southern child hasn't chased them around the yard, collecting them in a jar with holes pierced in the top for a night-light?

Docile, unthreatening and marvelous in abundance, on warm spring evenings fireflies give shape to our most magical thoughts and dreams.
